This massive facade stands over thirty meters tall, displaying the incredible wealth of the Portuguese Empire in stone.
The Church of Santa Maria de Belém
The interior of the church is a masterpiece of the 'hall-church' style. I selected a wide nave shot to show the unsupported vaulting and a close-up of the ceiling to highlight the Manueline engineering.

Vibrant light filters through stained-glass windows, transforming the interior into a colorful spiritual sanctuary.
The Tomb of Vasco da Gama
The final resting place of the explorer who discovered the sea route to India. I used the primary POI image and a detail of the caravel carving to connect the tomb to his maritime achievements.

Intricate carvings on the side of the tomb celebrate the ships and maritime tools of the Age of Discovery.

Located opposite Vasco da Gama, the tomb of Portugal's national poet mirrors the explorer's, honoring the 'arms and the men' he celebrated in his epic poem. I selected images that show the symmetry and the poet's effigy.
